Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how PolicyBenchmark collects, uses, and protects information when you visit our website.

Information We Collect

Information you provide: If you submit a business insurance request, we collect the coverage you are exploring, your industry, business state and ZIP code, employee range, timing, business name, contact name, email address, and your selected contact method. If you request a manual phone call, we also collect your phone number. We record your affirmative permission, the wording you agreed to, and the time we receive your request. Please do not submit Social Security numbers, payment details, medical records or other sensitive documents.

Unfinished contact details: If you enter your name, email address, phone number, business name or preferred contact method in an enabled request form, we may save those fields privately as an unfinished contact draft before you send the request. Typing alone does not save a draft. A draft is saved only when you leave or close the page, switch to another tab or app, or step back from the contact step, and never while your browser signals Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. A draft holds the fields as they were at that moment, so it can include incomplete entries and a phone number you entered before changing your preferred contact method. We record the form's source page and, when journey measurement is enabled, its session identifier. A draft is not recorded as marketing consent, permission to share it with insurance providers, or a completed request. Draft saving does not send an automatic email.

Request source: We may associate your request with the page that led you to the form, the first page you visited in the session, the referring website's hostname, and campaign identifiers. We use these details to understand which commercial insurance resources are useful. Our form events do not send contact fields to analytics.

Our educational guides and tools can be used without submitting a request.

Assessment requests: If you choose to send a request from the business insurance assessment, we also include your selected coverage topics and your answers about operating states, workforce and contractors, work locations, business assets, services, vehicle use, digital activities, insurance requests in contracts, specialty activities, management responsibilities, goals and timing, along with your business type and activities, years in business and experience, revenue range, expected payroll range, current insurance, claims history and any activity description you type. We record the assessment's question and source versions so the context can be understood later. Explicit “not sure” and unasked questions remain distinct. Your business details and timing carry into the request without asking you again.

Assessment answers on your device: While you use the business insurance assessment, your answers, your topic choices and the question or report you are viewing are kept in this browser tab's session storage on your device, so reloading the page or visiting a guide in the same tab does not lose them. They are not sent to PolicyBenchmark unless you submit a request, and they are cleared when you close the tab or select Start over. Tool worksheets stay only in the page's memory and are cleared when you leave or reload the page.

Contact drafts are saved separately as described above; they do not include assessment answers or worksheet contents. We do not send contact details, assessment answers or worksheet values to our form analytics, and we do not place them in the page address, with one exception: a tool's “Request coverage help” link carries only the state and business category you chose and the employee range for the number you entered, along with that tool's coverage topic and page, and nothing else from the tool. Viewing a report does not submit it or sign you up for follow-up. You can print or save the report as a PDF on your device without sending it to PolicyBenchmark. Clearing your assessment, leaving or reloading does not delete a contact draft already saved to our database.

Website journey measurement: Our first-party measurement records visited page paths, internal link destinations, use of identified buttons and disclosures, tool use, and assessment and request-form stages. We distinguish a request link or form appearing on screen from someone interacting with it. We also record clicks to an identified insurance provider's website, coarse ranges of visible and focused page engagement, scroll milestones, and fixed categories for form validation or submission problems. Assessment events identify the question shown or completed, not the answer chosen. Search queries, raw referring addresses, campaign values, contact fields, error messages, worksheet contents and unsubmitted answer values are excluded from these events.

We classify the source of a visit into fixed categories such as search, referral, campaign or unknown, and record a coarse screen-width category. Random session and page identifiers connect events; the session restarts after 30 minutes without activity. Browser session storage holds the session identifier, first page, fixed source categories, activity time and event order, rather than the event history. These identifiers are not fingerprints or tracking cookies. If you submit a request, we may include the session identifier with the request to understand which resources and steps led to it. These records are therefore not described as anonymous. We use them to improve our content and forms, including understanding where visitors stop before submitting.

This first-party measurement and our request-form analytics events are disabled when the browser signals Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. This measurement does not use a cross-visit advertising identifier or read the content of form fields.

Other technical information: Where enabled, Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager measures site usage according to its configured settings. Hosting and security services also process technical information needed to deliver and protect the site. These services have separate collection methods from the first-party events described above.

Cookies and Tracking

PolicyBenchmark uses cookies and similar technologies for:

• Analytics cookies — Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish unique visitors and track sessions. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Session storage — We may remember the first page and campaign source during a browser session. First-party journey measurement also uses a random session identifier as described above. The business insurance assessment keeps your answers and topic choices in this tab's session storage until you close the tab or select Start over, as described above. We do not save contact fields or worksheet values in browser storage.

We do not use advertising cookies or retargeting pixels. We do not build individual user profiles for advertising purposes.

How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

• Operate and maintain the website
• Analyze site traffic and usage patterns to improve content
• Review unfinished contact drafts, connect them to completed requests when submitted, and handle corrections or deletion requests
• Review and respond to the business insurance inquiries you choose to send us by email or, if you request it, a manual phone call
• With your affirmative permission, share your business insurance request with insurance companies, licensed agents and brokers to help you find coverage
• Maintain a record of your permission, handle corrections or withdrawal, and avoid duplicate requests
• Ensure site security and prevent abuse

Information Sharing

When you submit a request and accept the provider-referral consent, you authorize PolicyBenchmark to share the business and contact information in that request, including any submitted assessment or tool context, with insurance companies, licensed agents and brokers to help you find coverage. PolicyBenchmark and these providers may contact you about the request by email or, if you choose phone contact, a manual phone call. We may receive compensation for a referral; the request is free to you. Availability depends on the provider, your location and your business.

This permission does not authorize automated calls, text messages or marketing unrelated to your insurance request. Consent is not a condition of purchasing insurance. To withdraw your request or ask which providers received it, contact PolicyBenchmark using the details below. Withdrawal stops future referrals by PolicyBenchmark; a provider that already received the request may retain information under its own privacy policy, and you can contact that provider to exercise your choices.

Requests submitted under the earlier PolicyBenchmark-only consent remain limited to that permission. We need fresh permission before referring those requests to insurance providers. Unfinished contact drafts are not provider referrals and are not shared with insurance providers. A later policy update does not expand permission for an earlier request or draft.

In addition to the consented insurance referrals described above, we share information in these circumstances:

• Service providers — When online requests are enabled, Supabase provides private database storage for completed requests and unfinished contact drafts. Our hosting and verification providers process information needed to operate and protect the form. These services support PolicyBenchmark; they are not insurance lead buyers. Access is limited to authorized personnel and service providers acting for us.
• Analytics and hosting providers — Google Analytics supports site usage reports where enabled. First-party journey events are processed through our website hosting and private Supabase database. Authorized personnel use these records to understand site usage and completed requests.
• Affiliate link clicks — When you click an affiliate link on our site, you are directed to a third-party insurance provider's website. That provider may collect information about your visit according to its own privacy policy. Clicking a link alone does not submit your request-form contact details to that provider.
• Legal requirements — We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process.

Third-Party Websites

PolicyBenchmark contains links to third-party websites, including insurance provider websites. This privacy policy applies only to PolicyBenchmark. When you visit a third-party website, you are subject to that site's privacy policy. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect. However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure.

Keeping and Deleting Requests

Requests and unfinished contact drafts are not deleted on a fixed schedule. We keep them while they are needed for the purposes described above, for records of the permission you gave, to prevent abuse, or to meet applicable obligations. We review stored requests and drafts and delete those that are no longer needed, and we delete them when you ask, unless a record must be kept for a legal obligation. To ask about a completed request or unfinished draft, correct your information, withdraw permission for further follow-up, or request deletion, use the contact address below.

Children's Privacy

PolicyBenchmark is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, use the contact address below. We may need to verify that the request is yours before disclosing or deleting information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Changes do not expand the permission you gave for an existing insurance inquiry.
